This Week At Stoke City 20th-27th June

Well this is my first post of many I hope. The week on a personal note has been disaster from start to finish and everything went wrong anyway less about my week and let’s talk about what is so important to me, Stoke City Football Club.

Incoming – Transfer Rumours

The Main News would be the possible interest in West Ham’s Dean Ashton and Crocked England Legend Michael Owen, both however are very unlikely signings. Dean Ashton a former Potter’s Academy player was the main talk at the start of the week. Stoke after an England International? who’d of thought that 5 years ago? but later on during the week Peter Coates dismissed any interest in him. But we then got linked with Michael Owen! Yes THE Michael Owen the one when 18 scored a brilliant goal vs the Argies in France ‘98! With reported interest from Hull City the next day Mr. Pulis said he’d love have Owen here and then not so long after Peter Coates stated that we’re going to phone Michael Owen’s agents about a possible deal. I for one would be concerned about his previous injuries, but Tony Pulis has got a fantastic record of keeping ‘Injury Proned’ players Fit and Injury Free (Fuller, Noel-Williams etc) but I think this will be 1 step to far and the reported 110k a week wages at Newcastle I just can’t see it however much I’d like it happen.

Ashton on his way back to Stoke?

Newcastle Fail To Stay In the Premier League

Michael has numerous offers

Habib Beye. This player would improve our defence and attacking options and with the reported amount to be £1m would be the bargain of the season in any league in the world. A fantastic defender with a great attacking vision; he’s a former captain of Olympique Marseille, played in the Champions League and also a former Senegalese International with 35 caps and 1 goal so he’d blend well with our current squad. How much I like Wilko (Andy Wilkinson) I’d love have Habib Beye at the Brit. Tony go get him!.

Another Senegalese arrival?

The 3rd Newcastle player linked with us this week is Obafemi Martins. The Nigerian International who has been linked with a £5m move to the Potteries would be a cracking edition to the team. Blessed with Pace, Power, Vision and Work Ethic. He may not score a lot but he’s a top player and anyone would like him in there squads but this summer he’s been linked with over 15 clubs so far so I don’t expect we’re his first port of call.

Martins on his way?

Dean Whitehead, Will his name ever not be linked with us? Once again reports been saying we are interested (3rd Summer on trot we have been linked with him). The 27 year old stated last summer he had no intention’s of leaving the Stadium of Light but rumours won’t go away and with Mr. Pulis a big admirer of the Abingdon born Central Midfielder; I can see him being here in the near future he’s an improvement on Diao but is he better than Whelan, Delap or even Amdy Faye? I’m not to sure.

Tony’s permanent target

Haminu Dramani a player linked with us last Summer and in January with a reported €3 million bid agreed there is a possible move for the versatile Ghanian International. He was on loan to newly promoted FC Kuban Krasnodar where he played 11 times scoring twice, If he does sign he would be backup to the left sided wingers and I’d like to think we’d get him cheaper.

We have also been linked with former target Aruna Dindane, ex-England International Darius Vassell & Reading player Leroy Lita these link’s are very unlikley to happen so I won’t go into much detail. Aruna Dindane has also been linked with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa so I think we’d be last on his list. Darius Vassell has also been linked with Hull City and I REALLY hope we arn’t even looking at him. Leroy Lita I made the thread on the Oatcake Fanzine message board about the link and the comments left like mine we’re very negative he is a very average Championship player with great pace but no great outcome of any sort, he also has a very ‘big time Charlie’ feel about him and if the cards we’re down he would run and hide in a dark corner I for one wouldn’t like to see him here.

Leroy Lita an unlikely arrival

Outgoing Transfer Rumours

Not many Outgoing rumours this summer to be fair but this week was a link of a possible departure of defender Andrew Davies to Coventry City & Queens Park Rangers. Davies has had a horrid time at The Brit so far due to percicent knee problems, a player who has the potential to be in our starting XI and a player I highly rate but I think he’ll be on his way because of the Injuries which is a shame.

Andrew Davies on his way?

Also Seyi Olofinjana is attracting interest from French Club AS Monaco, this may sound a bit of a shock considering he has not even played since Christmas, but the impressive performance’s vs Republic of Ireland and France as Nigerians Captain may have lead to the interest, there is also reported interested from newly promoted Burnley

Seyi to the South Coast of France?

Other News

What many Stoke fans we’re surprised to hear was when Mr. Pulis said he’d like to help out good friend, Ex-Potter & now local rival’s manager Mickey Adams; the deals that will happen are more likely to be the youth players of Stoke going to them with the possible deals this season including probable incoming whizzkids Matt Lund & Ben Marshall.

Paul Jewell for Assistant Manager? Well it shows you how far we have come but it’s true. The former Bradford City, Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan Athletic & Derby County Manager is the favourite to replace David Kemp (who is going to be a Part-Time scout in America). The Liverpudlian is close friends with Mr. Pulis and there footballing strategies are very similar who bases on Hard Work and Passion and would be a match made in heaven in my view, but other Stoke fan’s don’t seem to keen which is a quite of a surprise because of his poor stint at Derby County, to similar personality wise and some just don’t like him as a person! but the dig at him because of the Derby stint is a bit ridiculous No manager in the world would of saved them even Jose Mourinho wouldn’t.

Stoke Target Djibril Cisse has joined Greek Giants Panathinaikos, on a 4 year deal.

I hope you have enjoyed this review of the week.

One typo I noticed – well, I presume it is a typo. You said …. ” but other Stoke fan’s don’t seem to keen which is a quite of a surprise because of his poor stint at Derby County” ….. Did you mean not instead of quite?

Interesting that you have covered the same ground pretty much as I*T*P*L but it is none the worse for that.

Incidentally I was checking on wikipedia and they said that Haminu had confirmed that his name is spelled Draman NOT Dramani. Mind you it was Wiki so it could be bollox.

Anyway – a good first effort Muzz. Are you going to tell us what was so bad about your week? ;)

  2. mozzaascfc Says:

No im just surprised Stokies are getting on someones back because of a poor spell like non of them have not had a bad spell in there lifes

And I just wanted write something to get me going…I don’t know what else write about atm :\

And ooo right I always thought it was Dramani lol

And Cheers Lakeland and nah im afraid not :P

  3. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

It’s quite interesting that the first blog you’ve written takes on a very similar feel to those of I*T*P*L, whose writing is of a much higher standard. You even include most of the playeres that I*T*P*L mentioned in his most recent article, so it does seem as if some sort of plaigarism has taken place.

Anyway, it’s always good to see a new blogger so I hope you continue to write and improve your work.

  4. mozzaascfc Says:

Well there nothing write about at the moment so there the only things I can talk about at the moment just wanted get into it & why would I plaigarise it? It’s my own writing but if it’s similar it shows that me & I*T*P*L have similar feelings towards the subjects given. It will be a bit sketchy considering I have never done something like this before & I*T*P*L has been doing this for longer than myself so his work will be alot better quality.

  5. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

No need to be on the defensive …

There are, in fact, loads of things to write about. You could maybe consider, depending on your age, the top 10 players you have seen. Also, maybe a series of articles on individual players and their impact and importance to Stoke. Possibly you even write about your hopes for next season. There is loads of choice, you just have to be creative.

  6. mozzaascfc Says:

Well I have to be defensive about my work :P …but great ideas! Never really thought of anything like that just thought of only the review :( …thanks for the Ideas ill use some of them :)

  7. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

No worries, just give me some credit if you use them :) . By the way, how old are you (don’t worry, I’m not Michael Jackson!!)?

  8. mozzaascfc Says:

Haha it’ll be first thing I mention ;) & 17 & haha I liked MJ so no worries lol…Gary Glitter on the other hand >:(

  9. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

Are you from Stoke? It would be nice to get a Stokie’s perspective from that area, rather than one from Manchester (I*T*P*L)

As you are a fan of Michael Jackson, I will have to stop myself from divulging into my vast repartoir of anti-Jackson jokes. Suffice to say, Gary Glitter has just bought Michael Jackson’s phonebook on Ebay!!

  10. mozzaascfc Says:

Yeh I live in Fenton only live about 2 miles away from the Brit…I could do one about how the area of Stoke-on-Trent has changed from when I was a kid until now, but currently I’m writing my Top 20 players since 2000, so I could get some interesting comments ;) & haha don’t mind the jokes there quite funny, didnt like his lifestyle but his music is genius

  11. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

    Sounds a good idea.

Joke number 2: Apparently Michael Jackson didn’t die of a heart attack. He died from food poisoning, but I suppose that’s what you get from eating 10 year old nuts!!

  12. mozzaascfc Says:

As I read that I was eating Peanuts how ironic haha

  13. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

    HAHA!!

Joke number 3: Apparently Michael Jackson didn’t die of a heart attack. He was in the children’s ward at a hospital and had a stroke!!

  14. I*T*P*L Says:

Top 20 players sounds very good, whatever you do don’t forget Mikael Hansson.

Steven, your jokes are about as tasteful as my collection of Mexican football kits. By the way, The Peak District is not Manchester.

  15. mozzaascfc Says:

You have seen my thread on the Oatcake I see ;)

Whats the difference between Alex Ferguson & Michael Jackson…one will be playing Giggs in August… see I even have some and I’m a HUGE fan ;D

  16. footyjourno93 Says:

“Joke number 2: Apparently Michael Jackson didn’t die of a heart attack. He died from food poisoning, but I suppose that’s what you get from eating 10 year old nuts!”

You deserve a national comedy award, that is brilliant1 :D

  17. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

    Thank you footyjourno93 :D

Joke number 4: Michael Jackson’s body is apparently going to be recycled as plastic bags, so he can still be a danger to children!

    Jokes 5, 6, 7 and 8 to follow tomorrow!!

  18. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

Joke number 5: What do Michael Jackson and PlayStations have in common?

They’re both plastic and get turned on by children!

  19. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

Joke number 6: NEEDS TO BE READ OUT ALOUD!

What does Michael Jackson like about 23 year olds?

    There are 20 of them!!

  20. footyjourno93 Says:

I’ve got one- Michael Jackson wakes up to see his doctor. He ask ” Dr, Dr am I in heaven.” To which the doctor replies, “No Michael I am just wheeling you through the childrens ward.”

Anyhow back to the article, and well done mozzaascfc. I thought the piece was very good and it sits well alongside I*T*P*L’s outstanding collection of posts. I actually think you’ve got quite a hard task in writing for the Stoke blog as I*T*P*L has made it one of the best Stoke blogs on the internet, but if you keep writing like this you’ll be fine. Well done.

  21. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

Joke number 7: The Jackson 5 are toruing next year. 20% off!!

  22. Steven Goran Eriksson Says:

Joke number 8: There is a tragic story eminating from Praia de Luz, Portugal where a little girl is mourning the loss of Michael Jackson.

She is quoted as saying, ” First my parents left me here, and now my husband has died”!!
